Black Girl Black Box centers the lives, experiences, art and stories of all Black girls and women. As such, Black Girl Black Box welcomes submissions from Black girls and women across the diaspora. To be clear, Black Girl Black Box recognizes that trans girls and women are girls and women.

Types of Submission 

Black Girl Black Box recognizes that Black girls and women tell their stories in many different ways. Creators are invited to submit in any form including (but not limited to): 

  1. Blogs 
  2. Poetry 
  3. Autobiographical work
  4. Short stories 
  5. Op-eds 
  6. Art reviews (including books, theater, movies and music)
  7. Videos (including performance pieces and tutorials)


The Fine Print 

  1. Creators retain all rights to content and agree to allow Black Girl Black Box permission to publish their work. Creators may revoke permission in writing by sending an email to
  2. Black Girl Black Box does not currently provide monetary compensation for submitted and published work although we certainly hope to change this.
  3. Creators grant permission for Black Girl Black Box to make minor edits to work submitted (i.e. typos, spelling errors, title changes etc.). 
  4. Creators may submit previously published work as long as they retain rights to the work.
